King Canyon – Saguaro National Park

What a difference a three months make in the Sonora Desert! We previously hiked this trail in December and it looked dry and tan. In March, after a wet winter, the desert looked lush! Many of the flowers are very small. My camera’s autofocus often chose the distant background.

We also spotted a ground squirrel chirping a warning from a ledge above the wash.

The walk up the wash is easy except for half a dozen dry waterfalls. Fortunately previous hikers have found practical passages up these three to six foot high walls.

The most exciting find was half a dozen 800 year-old petroglyphs.
